Econcreed

Patented fibre treatment technology for next-generation concrete

Econcreed® enables durable integration of elephant grass fibres into mineral binders, improving material performance and environmental impact.

For farmers, concrete manufacturers, builders and developers.

    The Econcreed technology

Econcreed is a patented fibre treatment technology.

Using a specially developed impregnation liquid and controlled treatment process, plant fibres from elephant grass (Miscanthus) are prepared for reliable use in mineral binders such as cement and concrete.

    The treatment:

    • Stabilises the fibres in alkaline environments
    • Controls moisture absorption during curing
    • Improves fibre–binder interaction

This allows biobased fibres to be used predictably and industrially in concrete blocks, panels and prefabricated elements.

Econcreed does not replace concrete, it enables better concrete.

Lower environmental impact where it matters

In today's construction projects, the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of building materials increasingly determines whether a project can proceed.

    Environmental performance influences:

    • Permits and approvals
    • Tender eligibility
    • Financing and public procurement
    • Compliance with national sustainability requirements

By enabling the use of treated biobased fibres in concrete products, Econcreed helps manufacturers and builders significantly reduce the environmental footprint of building materials compared to conventional concrete solutions.

This lower LCA can be the difference between:

A project moving forwardA project being delayed or rejected

Econcreed supports compliance, without requiring fundamental changes to existing construction processes.

    Optional long-term carbon storage

Because elephant grass absorbs CO₂ while growing, part of this biogenic carbon remains stored when treated fibres are embedded in long-life construction products.

In qualifying projects, this can contribute to long-term biogenic carbon storage in the built environment.

    Econcreed:

    • Does not issue carbon credits
    • Does not certify projects
    • Does not make offset claims

However, Econcreed-enabled materials are compatible with project-level construction stored-carbon certification, where independent verification and full supply-chain documentation are applied.

Carbon certification is an optional downstream benefit, not the starting point.

Built for the construction value chain

Econcreed is designed to integrate into existing supply chains.
